Too much personal talk by Doctors can be bad medicines,according to a sudy published on monday in
which USA Researchers sent actor posing a new patient to see Doctors in seceret recorded visits.
Doctors often waste time in already may have been short visit and stifled the flow of information
form patient by gabbing about themselfs,their own health problems,family problems and their political believe,the study found.
the doctors engange in such "personal dosclosure" in 34% of visit tracked by the researchers.
The personal talk may have been well intentioned -to deepen a doctor-patient relationship- but yeilding a little of value to patients and sometimes was counter-productive,the researchers said.
"We found that the physician self disclosure were often non sequitur,unattached to any discussion
in visit,and focus on the physicians than a patients need," they wrote in the journal Archive of Internal Medicine.
Dr Howard Beckham,a medical profesors at the UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER IN ROCHESTER,NEW YORK,said he used to engage in this type of talk in his own parctice.
